I’ve been closely in touch with the Government and the preferred bidder for SSUK about reports of discussions between the Official Receiver and the preferred bidder collapsing over the last few days.

I know this reporting is worrying, and I want to offer some reassurance and clarity for our community.

As it says in the original Times article, the Government have reiterated that ‘talks are ongoing’ with the preferred bidder.

The reports of talks collapsing have come from a third party who is not a party in these talks.

In the Steel Minister’s Statement in Parliament on tariffs last week, he restated the crucial nature of SSUK for aerospace and defence long term, as well as importance of speciality steel for downstream steel manufacturers.

The Steel Minister has funded the extension of the Official Receivership process, and I know that as I do, he wants to see our SSUK sites restarted as soon as possible.

As I have from day one, I will always continue to fight for our steel site, our jobs, and our community.
