Marie Tidball, Member of Parliament for Penistone and Stocksbridge, has backed a 25-year plan, designed by the Government, in conjunction with farmers. The ‘Farming Roadmap 2050: Growing England's Future’ is a strategy that represents a leap forward in making farming more profitable, productive, sustainable and resilient.
The 25-year plan is the first of its kind, and is the most significant government intervention in English agriculture since the Second World War. It will give farmers better access to the tools, technology, skills, and the supply chains they need across the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency.
This year, the Government has invested £123 million in farming innovation, focussed on soil health, water management and farming robotics. In addition, a new £30 million Farmer Collaboration Fund opened this summer, to help support farmers grow their businesses through sharing best practice.
This news follows on from a roundtable with local farmers which Marie hosted in the constituency, where she heard their concerns directly.

"When I met with local farmers at a constituency roundtable earlier this year, farmers told me of how much they wanted a longer term and more stable approach to farming from the Government.
"That’s why I am very pleased to be supporting the 25-year farming plan, which comes alongside a £123 million investment in farming innovation and a £30 million investment in the Farmer Collaboration Fund.
"This represents the most significant Government intervention in farming since the Second World War. The 25-year plan and this additional funding will mean that local farmers can make their businesses more profitable and fit for the future.
"Safeguarding our farming heritage, which is so important to our communities for generations to come, is a key priority for me as the MP for our rural areas."
